Goldilocks and the Three Bears

An English Fairy Tale·6 min·Ages 2+
A curious girl wanders into a bear family's home and discovers that 'just right' is what matters most.

Once upon a time, in a cozy cottage at the edge of the woods, there lived three bears. There was a great big Papa Bear, a medium-sized Mama Bear, and a tiny little Baby Bear.

One morning, Mama Bear made a big pot of porridge for breakfast. But it was much too hot to eat.

"Let's go for a walk while it cools down," said Papa Bear. And so they did.

While the bears were out walking, a little girl named Goldilocks came wandering through the woods. She had golden curly hair and a very curious nature. When she saw the bears' cottage, she peeked through the window. When nobody answered her knock, she walked right in.

On the table sat three bowls of porridge. Goldilocks was hungry, so she tasted the first one.

"Ow! This porridge is too hot!"

She tasted the second one. "Brr! This porridge is too cold!"

She tasted the third one. "Mmm! This porridge is just right!" And she ate it all up.

Then Goldilocks saw three chairs by the fireplace. She sat in the first one. "This chair is too hard!"

She sat in the second one. "This chair is too soft!"

She sat in the third one. "This chair is just right!" But just as she settled in — CRACK — the little chair broke right apart.

Goldilocks went upstairs, where she found three beds. She lay in the first bed. "This bed is too hard!"

She lay in the second bed. "This bed is too soft!"

She lay in the third bed. "This bed is just right." And she fell fast asleep.

Before long, the three bears came home from their walk.

Papa Bear looked at his bowl and said in his great big voice, "SOMEONE HAS BEEN EATING MY PORRIDGE!"

Mama Bear looked at her bowl and said in her medium voice, "Someone has been eating my porridge!"

Baby Bear looked at his bowl and said in his tiny little voice, "Someone has been eating my porridge — and it's all gone!"

Then they looked at the chairs. "SOMEONE HAS BEEN SITTING IN MY CHAIR!" said Papa Bear. "Someone has been sitting in my chair!" said Mama Bear. "Someone has been sitting in my chair," cried Baby Bear, "and they've broken it all to pieces!"

They went upstairs. "SOMEONE HAS BEEN SLEEPING IN MY BED!" said Papa Bear. "Someone has been sleeping in my bed!" said Mama Bear.

"Someone has been sleeping in my bed," squeaked Baby Bear, "and she's STILL THERE!"

Goldilocks woke up and saw three bears staring at her. She screamed, jumped out of bed, ran down the stairs, out the door, through the woods, and all the way home.

And the three bears never saw her again. But from that day on, they always locked their door before going for walks.
